Women cannot deny the fact that menopause is a stage in life that cannot be avoided. This age-related condition is indeed affecting every woman.

According to Consultant Gynecological Surgeon and Fertility Expert, Dr. Dhaval Baxi, Menopause is a new stage in life "that may usher in a new set of challenges."

This phase of life, the expert says, is a time for women to have some realization and reflection since they are transitioning from one face of their life to another.

Are you among the many who wonder what it's like to experience the menopausal stage in life and how to cope with such an experience?

It is important, first and foremost, to know, what exactly, menopause is so you'll know too if what you are going through is already that.

Ensure that you are indeed, in that menopausal stage

Medical experts say, "menopause is a natural process," marking an end to the menstrual cycle of every woman. If you're a woman and you're not getting your periods for 12 months, you may have reached the menopausal phase of your life already.

Typically, women experience this in their late 40s through their early 50s. The stage is also considered as the "end of their reproductive years."

Stages and Symptoms of Menopause

Menopause is something that does not happen overnight. Meaning, you don't just wake up and say your period has stopped and are now experiencing menopause.

There are three stages a woman goes through:

  • The premenopause stage which starts many years prior to the real experience of menopause;
  • The menopause stage itself in which a woman does not get her periods for 12 months straight; and
  • Tpostmenopause stage, the time of every woman's life after attaining menopause.

Among the symptoms, you'd go through include irregular periods, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, mood swings, weight gain, mental condition like stress or anxiety, and sore and tender breasts.

5 Things You Can Do to Deal with Menopause

Since menopause is a natural process, you cannot find a specific medicine for it. All you can do is learn how to cope or deal with it. If you are experiencing the symptoms and you've confirmed that you're already in this stage of your life, these 5 easy ways might help you deal with what you're going through:

1. Take Medicines

The need to take medicines depends on the severity of the symptoms you are experiencing. Your gynecologist may prescribe certain drugs like hormone therapy or estrogen to relive some of the symptoms like vaginal dryness and hot flashes.

If you have mental conditions, the doctor may prescribe some low-dosage antidepressants. Essentially, menopause tends to make you susceptible to severe illnesses such as UTI and heart disease, among others. Therefore, it is important to keep your doctor to get the treatment needed.

2. Address Frequent Hot Flashes

If you are frequently experiencing hot flashes, experts recommend that you do not forget to "dress in layers" to help you easily remove your clothes when you begin feeling hot.

It will help too if you drink plenty of water and stay away from spicy food. And, when the hot flashes begin, breathe slowly and deeply.

3. Practice Meditation and Mindfulness

Any meditation and mindfulness exercise can be a great contributor to the improvement of your mental health.

Menopause leads to a lot of emotional disturbance where you have to deal with stress, anxiety, depression, and even mood swings. That's what makes these two mild exercises essential during the menopause stage.

4. Engage in Physical Exercise

One of the symptoms of menopause is weight gain as the metabolism slows down as we age. Engaging in regular physical exercise such as running, aerobics, dancing, yoga, walking, and swimming, among others, can help you maintain an ideal weight and bone mass.

5. Have a Regular Sleep Cycle

When you're in the menopause stage, you are likely to experience insomnia as this is one of the common symptoms of the condition.

Hormonal changes and mood swings are two of the leading causes why women in this stage lack sleep and this can be frustrating.

You can regularize your sleep cycle by sleeping in a cool and darkroom, clearing your mind off thoughts through a little meditation before bedtime, and avoiding the use of your mobile gadget before you sleep.
