Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine: What Does it Contain Inside?

Around half of Americans now want to be vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccine, ideally from Pfizer pharmaceutical company. This is the latest percentage of people, aiming to take a shot of the drug, before the year 2021 arrives. But, do you really know what you're getting into? What are the ingredients inside a small bottle of Pfizer vaccine?

Margaret Keenan, 90, is the first patient in the United Kingdom to receive the Pfizer/BioNtech covid-19 vaccine at University Hospital, Coventry, administered by nurse May Parsons, at the start of the largest ever immunisation programme in the UK's history on December 8, 2020 in Coventry, United Kingdom. More than 50 hospitals across England were designated as covid-19 vaccine hubs, the first stage of what will be a lengthy vaccination campaign. NHS staff, over-80s, and care home residents will be among the first to receive the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, which recently received emergency approval from the country's health authorities.

Since Pfizer company claimed to have 94% effectiveness against Coronavirus, its name and fame around the world has been one of the most talked-about in the market.

IN fact, in the recent survey made by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, almost half of US adults approved to say that they wanted to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

However, a lot of Americans are still skeptical about the idea. At least 27% says they're not sure to take the vaccine, and close percentage of 26% told the agency, they're not going to take the vaccine at all.

Some may thought about the danger of putting a drug inside the human body, which causes some people to refuse for the vaccine.

Before, we get our sleeves up for the vaccine, here are the things you should know about its content inside each bottle.

What's inside it?

A Pfizer sign hangs on the outside of their headquarters after a news conference discussing the planned merger of Pfizer and Wyeth January 26, 2009 in New York City. Pfizer plans to acquire Wyeth for $68 billion creating the world's largest biopharmaceutical company.

In a couple of weeks, we've talked about Pfizer's effectivity against the viral Coronavirus. But, what do experts put inside the bottle?

As reported via MIT Technology Review, reading the ingredients inside a bottle of Pfizer vaccine is like looking on the side of a cereal box. Here are the substances found inside the Pfizer vaccine, according to the US Food and Drug Administration:

  • Active Ingredient
    • nucleoside-modified messenger RNA (modRNA) encoding the viral spike glycoprotein (S) of SARS-CoV-2
  • Lipids
    • (4-hydroxybutyl)azanediyl)bis(hexane-6,1-diyl)bis (ALC-3015)
    • (2- hexyldecanoate),2-[(polyethylene glycol)-2000]-N,N-ditetradecylacetamide (ALC-0159)
    • 1,2-distearoyl-snglycero-3-phosphocholine (DPSC)
    • cholesterol
  • Salts
    • potassium chloride
    • monobasic potassium phosphate
    • sodium chloride
    • basic sodium phosphate dihydrate
  • Other
    • sucrose

mRNA

mRNA is a type of molecule whose usual job is to transport copies of genetic instructions around a cell to guide the assembly of proteins. This is the main reason why Pfizer vaccine needs to be kept at a exact temperature all the time.

It causes cells to manufacture the big "spike" protein of the coronavirus, which the pathogen uses to glom onto a person's cells and gain entry.

Lipids

Lipids are technically the protector of mRNA inside the body. This substance helps mRNA to easily slide inside cells.

Salts

Everyone of us needs salt in the body. These are important inside a vaccine in order to keep its pH amount, or acidity level.

Each of above substances plays a role to curb the spread of Coronavirus inside a human body. Are you now willing to take the test?
