4-Year-Old Canadian Boy Is Back Home After Completing Cancer Treatments in Boston
A 4-year-old boy just completed his 30 proton therapy treatments in Boston. He carries on his therapy for medulloblastoma, the most common brain cancer type among children.
Four-year-old Camden Kingyens and his family have finally returned home. Camden, who just turned four, completed his proton therapy treatments in Boston. He is to carry on with his therapy for medulloblastoma, the most common brain cancer among children.
Victoria, Camden's mother, said on Friday morning, via a phone interview with The Guardian, Camden's Boston doctors could not believe how well the boy bore the radiation treatments.
The mother added, the boy flew through radiation as if he didn't even have cancer. She said her son is doing exceptionally well, and there are no current side effects from the procedure other than a little bit of fatigue.
Victoria also said the little boy started walking and pretty much running, which he hadn't done for six months. What she saw in Camden, his mother added, is indeed a significant milestone reached while they were in Boston.
The family traveled from Boston to Halifax, NS, where the four-year-old reportedly removed a central line used for his treatments at the IWK Health Center on Thursday. Then on Friday, they traveled back to PEI where they, as indicated in the report, were said to be playing the waiting game.

Weeks of Stay in Boston with the Whole Family
After six weeks from his last radiation, Camden will go through an MRI scheduled by the third week of October to determine how successful the proton treatments in Boston were.
According to Victoria, Camden is getting a full MRI from which they'd be able to see if "he gets his first cancer-free scan." Her son, she added, has not gone through any clear scans as of this time, and they are hoping this would be the first.
From January until June, the boy had three rounds of advanced chemo and two rounds of high doses in Toronto before going to Boston for the six-week proton radiation there.
This mom said everybody was happy with how well her son got along in Boston. She described her son as "up and down from January until April, May."
Camden then had many issues with his infections and other related occurrences when he was undergoing chemotherapy.
Victoria also shared that for her son to have had two months of considerably aggressive radiation treatment, he is otherwise thriving.
For nine weeks, the whole Kingyeng family, including his dad Matt and seven-year-old brother Nate, were all in Boston.

Overwhelming Support
For Camden's parents, it's hard to put into words what the support they've been getting recently means. Victoria said, "The financial support has been overwhelming."
All the thoughts, prayers, and messages have also been encouraging for the family, especially as they go through challenging times.
Victoria also said they have quite a long list of names they would like to thank, and she had no idea how they were going to do it. These, she elaborated, are just so many people who have stepped up to show their support, and they are so grateful for it.
Back at their PEI home, a special Welcome Home Parade is planned for the Kingyens family on Sunday. Even though the family is set for isolation, the public is invited to drive by the Kingyens' home at 229 Gunning Shore Rd. from 2 pm to 3 pm.
