If you are suffering from arthritis like most aging individuals do and running is not an ideal physical activity for you, try cycling which may both be effective for you.

As people age, and so do the wisdom, viewpoint even changes that may affect their energy. Even if an individual does not dance quite as fast as he did before, there are still ways that can keep him that bounce in his step.

Aging does not necessarily mean vitality and robustness, or lower levels of energy, regardless of what today's generation's youth-obsessed culture would have you believe.  

These said, there are several key ideologies that can provide you with a boost as you grow older. Here are 4 tips to make you feel more energetic and in a good mood all the time.

4 Ways to Keep You Energized

1. Plan Your Menu

Have you been eating the same foods for quite some time now? You should take a second look at what's on the hour plate. 

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, "fresh, whole and unprocessed foods" are renewing levels of energy antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. 

Alicia Arbaje, MD, MPH, a geriatrician at Johns Hopkins said, packaged and processed foods can possibly make one feel heavy, not to mention, sluggish.

Therefore, she recommends the eating of animal products, specifically, red meat, moderately as these foods take longer to digest.

2. Watch Your Weight

Having few calories in your body can leave it "starved for energy," experts say. But if you have so much of it, it can lead to weight gain, and this again can make your feel inactive or slow.

The amount of food you eat every day depends on various things, especially the level of your being active. It is best to talk to your doctor, a nutritionist, or dietitian, and discuss with them the number of calories you should only take each day.

3. Keep Moving

Have you notice, at your age now, you are exercising less than you were in your younger years? According to the study, the more you are active, the more, you are feeling energetic.

Engagement in physical activity and workout are both great ways to boost both your mood and energy levels. If you are suffering from arthritis like most aging individuals do and running is not an ideal physical activity for you, try cycling and swimming, which may both be effective for you.

You should avoid moving a lot as you grow older. Instead, just move in a more creative and different manner. There are various fitness programs designed for aging individuals or seniors. 

But if you really find it challenging to find time to exercise and be more active, try some little movements in the morning before engaging in any other activity. 

But before your morning light workout, be sure to eat your breakfast first. Aside from this, it is best to discuss your morning exercises with our doctor first before beginning any new routine.

4. Rest if You Must

For most people, this may sound funny. Other people even joke that when one retires and does not have to get up for work, he cannot "seem to sleep anymore.

However, getting enough sleep is essential. Most people should sleep at least seven hours each not. If you are not achieving that, whatever your reason is, find some ways to adjust to your evening routine.

Avoid alcoholic beverages before bedtime. While drinking the beverage may provide you with that drowsy feeling for a while, sleep experts say, it actually becomes a struggle to achieve a full and good night's sleep.

To ensure you're rested at night, be sure to drink your coffee or any caffeinated drink by midafternoon. Don't watch television before bedtime. Keeping your room as quiet, dark, and cool as possible will help you achieve that rest you need, as well. 

Have a set bedtime and wake-up time as often as possible. If you've tried all these tips to rest well and you haven't gotten enough sleep yet, better discuss this with your doctor.
