'Your COVID Recovery' is designed to include access to mental health services, support groups for community and exercise tutorials whether a patient opts for a tutorial via online or phone.

The NHS England recently announced that it created a COVID-19 recovery service to back survivors who are suffering from long-term impacts of the said virus.

In a report, tens of thousands of individuals experience long-term symptoms after contracting COVID-19.

The government set up an online portal also called "Your COVID Recovery," which is designed for people in England so they can access tutorials, track and monitor their progress, and get in contact with health workers.

This program will have a two-phased rollout, with the web portal set for launching this month. The project will only be made available through a personal login, and only virus patients who needed hospital treatment, and those who were able to manage their illness at home can access the service.

What COVID-19 Patients can Expect

Later this summer, customized rehabilitation will also be provided to a qualified individual after undergoing assessment.

The Department of Health and Social Care explained that each program in Your COVID Recovery is expected to last for up to 12 weeks.

The service, the department added, was developed and first made available in Leicester. More so, it is designed to include access too, to mental health services, support groups for community, and exercise tutorials whether a patient opts for a tutorial online or phone.

According to Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, the portal would provide survivors with on-demand access to web-based clinical support for mental health and breathing problems, or any other health complications.

COVID-19, Seemingly a Legacy to Stay for Years

As he announced Sunday morning, the service's launch on the Andrew Marr Show, Simon Stevens, the chief executive of NHS said, COVID-19 was a legacy to stay in the coming years.

In a statement, the NHS indicated how Stevens described the pandemic as "the biggest challenge" in its history.

The chief executive added a lot of survivors would encounter substantial continuing health issues. This includes difficulty in breathing, long-lasting fatigue or tiredness, reduced function of muscle, reduced ability to perform essential daily tasks, and mental health problems like depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

While in-person care continues to be necessary, the health service is grasping the most reliable new technology can offer us to meet the significant level of both new and existing need.

A Multifaceted Second Phase

Professor Sally Singh, who leads from the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS, in collaboration with the National clinical leaders for the development of phase two of Your COVID Recovery said, the effect of COVID-19 could be far-reaching and multifaceted.

The service is designed to support patients during their recovery after COVID-19 illness. This will be among the first portals to globally roll out, seeking to deal with post-pandemic symptoms and, not to mention, support survivors as they recover from the infectious disease.

According to Singh, through the project, they have brought together a wide range of experts depicting numerous professional societies that have contributed considerably to the site, to allow them to get an extensive package of both information and advice.

According to Singh, the department has worked with individuals who had some first-hand experience with COVID-19, so they can help the site and ensure the content was suited for a purpose.
