Plant-Based Food Replacement For Red Meat Diminish Heart Disease Risks

Dining in a fancy restaurant, having that romantic dinner, or holiday celebrations, red meat is always present on the tables. It is best paired with red wine, and it makes the mood of the dinner extra special. Although 'beef' comes to mind when we hear the word red meat, lamb meat is also a kind of red meat present in fancy restaurants.

In a report made by First Post, this kind of meat is well known to be the notorious cause of certain diseases. American Heart Association (AHA) mentioned that red meats like beef, pork, and lamb have more saturated fat. They also added that these fats are known to raise blood cholesterol and trigger or worsen heart disease. Now, the Fist Post mentioned a study that demonstrates a more complicated connection between red meat and heart diseases. 

The researchers of the recent study stress in Fist Post that previous studies regarding the connection of red meat and heart diseases could not explain how a population with lower red meat consumption still has a high risk of heart diseases. They added that this is evident among the Indian population. They also furthered in the release that most previous studies do not also account for variable quantities and frequency of red meat feasting and analogous protein sources to red meat.

Healthline mentioned that red meat nowadays is different from the red meat in the previous years. The article stated that these red meats' sources before were free-range, making them eat food that was natural for them such as insects and grass. Harvard Medical School also mentioned in their published article that processed meat products contain high amounts of additives and chemicals that may aid in developing serious diseases in the long run.

According to the First Post, the researchers analyzed a data collection from health professionals follow up study, including medical history, lifestyle, and diet data, from 51,529 American health professionals. The researchers also mentioned that they chose health professionals because they do not have heart issues or cancer. Still, after a 30-year follow-up, the researchers found about 4,456 have coronary heart disease (CHD). They also found out that participants with higher red meat consumption are smoking, drink alcohol, diabetic, and uses aspirin regularly. 

Based on the study's findings, the researchers concluded that the overall lifestyle - which is evident in the study because red meat eaters also have an unhealthy lifestyle - affects the risk of heart diseases. They also stated in the release that compared to red meat, having one serving of plant-based proteins garnered a 14% significant decrease in risk of developing CHD. Eureka Alert reported that the researchers also found out that substituting whole grains or dairy products to red meat and eggs for processed red meat shows lower coronary heart disease risk.
