Starting the day with a minimally-processed and plant-based diet is one of the best ways to fuel the immune system. To further step this up, a nutritionist has recommended incorporating a variety of healthy morning drinks to kickstart your body's defenses.

"Falling ill is not a risk you want to take, especially now, and it is always better to be safe than sorry. However, it should also be noted that our bodies do not build up immunity overnight," Dr. Rohini Somnath Patil said.  "One needs to balance their food habits and eat healthy, home-cooked meals over a period to time. But you can also incorporate some immunity-boosting drinks to your diet."

The first drink that Dr. Patil recommends will help turbocharge your immune system. It is the "turmeric immunity shot." Here are the ingredients:

  • Turmeric powder

  • Black pepper powder

  • Lukewarm water

  • Either lemon juice or raw apple cider vinegar

So, before you can ay move aside water, here are the steps in preparing the healthy drink:

  • Prepare a teaspoon of turmeric and a half teaspoon of black pepper powder.

  • Mix with lukewarm water and stir properly.

  • Add a teaspoon of either lemon juice or raw apple cider vinegar.

Gulping down a glass will help boost digestion and slows down the first signs of aging. Turmeric is riched with curcumin that defends the cells from being damaged by free radicals.
